The Whole Table: A Dialogue on Food, Care and Community
The Whole Table: A Dialogue on Food, Care and Community
This isn’t a conversation about the “right” way to eat—it’s about understanding the choices we make around food and the values that shape them. In today’s fast-paced world, this conversation offers a chance to slow down and think practically and meaningfully about what we eat, how it’s sourced, and why it matters. From fishing and foraging to cooking and spiritual practice, join us on Sunday, August 17 as our panel brings real-world insight into how food connects us to place, culture, and each other.
The panel features Dr. Shelley Edmundson, marine scientist and Executive Director of the Martha’s Vineyard Fisherman’s Preservation Trust, who helps connect the fish on our plates to the health of our oceans and the future of Island fishing communities; chef Nemo Bolin, known for his creative, seasonal cuisine rooted in sustainability and final four participant in the Chopped competition on the Food Network; Taylor Smalley, a Wampanoag food and foraging marvel, sharing Indigenous perspectives on living in harmony with the land; and Karma Trinlay Rinpoche, a revered Buddhist teacher bringing spiritual insight into mindful consumption.
Together, they offer a range of perspectives—land, sea, kitchen, and spirit—all grounded in a shared commitment to intentional living. This is a conversation not about absolutes, but about unity through difference, and the ways food can nourish not just our bodies, but our minds and souls as well.
