Martha’s Vineyard Museum proudly presents Global Rhythms, our annual concert series that moves to the beat of connection, tradition, and discovery. Presented in partnership with MVYRADIO, the Island’s independent, nonprofit radio station, this vibrant series brings world-class musicians to the Bodman Courtyard at the Museum on Wednesday evenings throughout the summer. Join us as these artists take the stage to share not only their sound, but the personal and cultural stories behind it.

Misfits of Avalon is a dynamic Celtic music ensemble based on Martha’s Vineyard, captivating audiences across New England with their unique blend of traditional and contemporary sounds. Led by multi-instrumentalist Brian Weiland and virtuoso guitarist Max Cohen, the group delivers performances that seamlessly intertwine delicate beauty with energetic drive. Their repertoire spans from haunting airs to raucous jigs, often within the same song. With four critically acclaimed albums to their name, the Misfits continue to enchant listeners with their rich musical tapestry.
Israeli bassist and composer Ehud Ettun is redefining the double bass as a melodic storytelling instrument. Ehud will be performing a mix of original jazz compositions and reinterpretations of Israeli music, with influences from the region. The music draws from Israeli, North African, and Eastern European roots, blending these influences with modern jazz improvisation. Throughout the show, he’ll share short stories about growing up in Jerusalem, his journey with music, and the musical heritage that shaped his sound. The performance aims to celebrate the shared emotional language of music across cultures. Ettun has performed at renowned venues such as New York’s Blue Note and Washington’s Kennedy Center. He has collaborated with jazz luminaries including Fred Hersch, Danilo Perez, and Anat Cohen. Ettun leads the Internal Compass Orchestra and the Internal Compass Summer Jazz Festival in Mitzpe Ramon, Israel, fostering musical innovation and community engagement.
Molly and Mark, the beloved folk and sea shanty duo from Martha’s Vineyard, captivate audiences nationwide with their heartfelt storytelling and maritime melodies. Their performances, infused with local charm and for this performance will add some musical nods to Jaws, have made them sought-after entertainers across the country. Whether through their album Home with Molly and Mark or their weekly “Sunday at Sea” shows, they share the island’s rich heritage and their own love story with warmth and humor.
Sol y Canto is an award-winning Pan-Latin ensemble led by Puerto Rican/Argentine singer and percussionist Rosi Amador and New Mexican guitarist and composer Brian Amador. Celebrating over 30 years of music-making, they blend original songs with inventive arrangements of Latin classics, creating a vibrant and engaging performance. Known for their rich vocal harmonies, rhythmic drive, and engaging audience participation, Sol y Canto offers a musical journey that resonates with audiences of all ages. Their concerts are a celebration of Latin American and Caribbean culture, infused with jazz and contemporary folk flavors. Experience a night of socially conscious, acoustic Pan-Latin music and poetry that will make you dance, laugh, cry, and sigh.
Jan Hulka is a multi-instrumentalist and folklorist whose work bridges the old and new worlds of Eastern Europe. Hulka brings to life the rich traditions of his heritage through soulful melodies, percussive rhythms, and deeply personal narratives.
Blending folk instruments, contemporary compositions, and spoken word, Hulka’s performance is both a concert and a cultural journey—drawing from his roots and his experiences as a cultural ambassador and educator. Audiences will hear traditional songs passed down through generations, alongside original works that reflect his evolving identity and global perspective.
Allie & Paryss are a dynamic husband-and-wife duo from Oak Bluffs, whose music pulses with soul, purpose, and power. Rooted in the rich cultural tapestry of their African American heritage, their sound is a bold fusion of gospel, soul, rock, and R&B — a genre-defying experience that’s as moving as it is electrifying.
With Allie’s powerhouse vocals soaring with raw emotion and Paryss’s masterful, fiery guitar work, their performances are more than just entertainment — they’re a celebration of legacy. Each song is a tribute to the depth, resilience, and beauty of Black culture, resonating with authenticity and spirit. Together, Allie & Paryss don’t just take the stage — they create a space where history, heart, and music collide.

Peter Halperin and the Group Therapy Band offer a musical experience that deeply resonates with the soul of Martha’s Vineyard. Drawing from decades of island living, Peter’s songwriting reflects themes of introspection, community, and the natural beauty of the Vineyard. Performing at venues like Woodstove Studios, a community space he founded in West Tisbury, the band brings together local musicians to create a sound that is both intimate and expansive. The ensemble features Jeremy Berlin on keys, Jim Orr on bass, and Tauras Biskis on drums, blending folk, blues, and Americana to capture the essence of island life and invite audiences to connect with the land and sea. Each performance is a celebration of the Vineyard’s rich cultural tapestry, offering a space where music and community intertwine.
Join us for a heartfelt celebration of the life and work of Jim Thomas, beloved founder and director of the U.S. Slave Song Project Spirituals Choir. Experience powerful live performances of traditional Spirituals by the choir he created. This educational group preserves and teaches the songs once used by enslaved people to communicate.
