New England Cheese, A Tasting Journey

New England Cheese, A Tasting Journey

Join us for a celebration of cheese on Wednesday, March 5th! Cheesemonger Morgen Schroeder and MVM Research Librarian Bow Van Riper will guide you through the fascinating history of this enduring dairy staple.

When European colonizers arrived in New England, they brought not only hopes for a new life but also the crops, livestock, and culinary traditions that defined their homeland—including cheese. As soon as dairy cows were introduced, New Englanders began making cheese, enriching their diets, preserving the flavors of home, and laying the foundation for the region’s vibrant cheese culture today.

Enjoy a curated cheese tasting experience showcasing the best of New England cheeses, paired with a historical interlude from Bow Van Riper, who will explore the essential role of cheese in the Colonial-era diet.

Morgen Schroeder is the cheesemonger and educator behind Martha’s Vineyard Cheesery, where she brings the art of cheese to life through tastings and workshops. She also curates the cheese selection at her family’s coffee shop, Catboat Coffee Co. in Vineyard Haven. When she’s not leading “cheesy” events, she’s enjoying the beauty of Martha’s Vineyard, chasing after her 1-year-old daughter, or sailing her Beetle Cat—fittingly named Curd.

Don’t miss this delicious journey through time and taste!

MVM Members: $50; Non-Members: $60.
