The Quahog: Nature – Tradition – Art
The Quahog: Nature – Tradition – Art
Join us on Wednesday, January 22, for an evening that celebrates the deep cultural and artistic significance of the quahog shell in Wampanoag traditions. Wampanoag Elder Donald Widdiss will share his insights on the quahog’s role in cultural preservation, artistic expression as a spiritual practice, and its connection to history, ancestors, and place.
As a highlight of the program, attendees will have the rare opportunity to view Donald’s contemporary wampum belt, featured in the MV Museum exhibit. This stunning piece honors the traditional craft of wampum-making while showcasing the artist’s personal vision and cultural connection.
Don’t miss this chance to explore the profound relationship between nature, tradition, and art through the lens of Wampanoag heritage.
MVM Members: $15; Non-Members: $25.
