Introduction to MV History Lecture Series: Week 3 (1820s-1920s)
Introduction to MV History Lecture Series: Week 3
Join us on Thursdays in September and October for our Introduction to Martha’s Vineyard History Lecture Series. If you’ve ever wanted to dig deep into the story of this Island with the help of an expert guide, this six-week lecture series, taught by MVM Research Librarian Bow Van Riper, is the perfect place to begin.
Week 3 will focus on whaling, fishing, and shipping in the 1820s-1920s. Residents of the Island have always depended on the sea to sustain them. That dependence reached its peak in the nineteenth century, when fishing, whaling, and merchant shipping brought the Island unprecedented prosperity.
Preregistration encouraged.
MVM Members: $20 per class; Non-Members: $25 per class
Please note: the final class session will occur on October 26, not October 19.
