Holy Ghost Society Flag
Holy Ghost Society Flag
This flag was crafted by Theresa Fontes for the Holy Ghost Society when it moved to its new hall in Vineyard Haven in 1947. The flag of the Holy Spirit is among the most important symbols carried in the ritual procession held during the annual Portuguese Feast of the Holy Ghost, a tradition that connected new Azorean immigrants to their homeland and a time for them to unite and celebrate their roots.
