Lyle Ashton Harris: Our first and last love

Explore the profound layers of Lyle Ashton Harris’ art in a special event at the Martha’s Vineyard Museum, featuring the renowned artist alongside Lauren Haynes, Head Curator at Governors Island Arts. Their conversation, led by moderator James Powell, will reflect on Harris’ recent Queens Museum exhibition co-Curated by Haynes and accompanying book, “Lyle Ashton Harris: Our first and last love.” They will also discuss the intersection of Harris’ artwork with contemporary social and political themes, highlighting his personal narratives of struggle and moments of self-discovery. Attendees will also have the chance to purchase copies of the discussed book. 

This program is brought to you in partnership with 100 Lagoon Pond: Floating Gallery, a living sculpture and cultural platform in Vineyard Haven that uses art exhibitions, public programming, and an annual creative residency to bring attention to the needs of the Island’s natural environment.
