Join us for this illustrated talk with John Forti exploring design trends and plant selections from Native gardens to historically inspired gardens in America today. In his talk, John brings to life the unique and living history of plants that have a defining presence in our region. His program explores the significance of heirloom plants and gives voice to the history they keep alive. For those interested in gardens that inspire a sense of time and place, this talk will foster a better understanding of the most tried and true plants and our role in preservation. Together, we will explore garden history in practical new ways that give gardeners the tools to bring elements of the past to life in our own backyards and community landscapes.
John Forti is a garden historian and ethnobotanist who has directed gardens for Plimoth Plantation, Strawberry Banke, the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, and Bedrock Gardens. He is also the author of the best-selling book The Heirloom Gardener – Traditional Plants and Skills for the Modern World. Copies of his book will be available for purchase by cash or check.
