Reopening Guidelines at MVM

We are so excited to welcome you all back to the outdoor portions of the Museum campus beginning Tuesday, June 30th for members and Friday, July 3rd to the general public. Not a member? Join today.

The health and safety of our visitors, volunteers, and staff is, and will remain, our top priority as we begin to re-open the campus. A number of new protocols and cleaning procedures are already in place, and we continue to consult with local officials to ensure we can offer the safest experience possible.

Outdoor Campus Hours

The outdoor campus will be open free to all Tuesdays – Sundays from 10am to 5pm. Individuals do not need a reservation to come.

Health/Safety Protocols

Social distancing will be required across the campus at all times. Anyone wishing to enter Doherty Hall (our large-object barn featuring vehicles, vessels, etc.) or interacting with a staff member, docent, or volunteer, will be required to wear a mask or face covering. Masks will not be provided. Please bring one with you. If you are taking an outdoor tour, you must also wear a mask for the duration. All members of the MVM team will be wearing masks at all times. Hand sanitizer stations will be set up at various points across the campus for your convenience.

Restrooms

There will be no access to the interior of the building at this time. A portable restroom will be available outside.

Checking-In

When you arrive at the campus, please check in with one of our visitor services staff, who will be located under a tent in the Bodman Courtyard. In addition to answering any questions you may have and orienting you on how to start your outdoor experience, the visitor services team will also have outside scavenger hunts for families and an interpretive map of all the outdoor features.

Tours

Outdoor tours of the campus will be offered daily at 11am and 2pm beginning Tuesday, July 7th. They will be free, but will require you to sign up at least 48 hours in advance. Tours will be limited to 10 people including the docent. Docents will have audio amplification to allow groups to be socially distant and still hear the guide. To sign up for a tour, click here. If you would like to request a private tour for just the members of your immediate party, please check the appropriate box on the sign-up form. We will do our best to accommodate as many private-tour requests as possible, but we cannot guarantee their availability. If a private tour is not available, we will contact you via email before you come.

Inclement Weather

In the case of inclement weather, the outdoor campus will close. Please check here or on our social media platforms for updates. We will try to reopen as soon as the inclement weather passes.

Campus Use

We recognize that after many months stuck inside, many people want to be outside and enjoy the summer weather. We also recognize we have a beautiful campus on which to do this. If you wish to picnic on our lawn, come up and read a book, or just take in our gorgeous view, circles will be spray painted on the Lewis Lawn to help maintain social distancing. A limited number of tables and chairs will also be set up on the Feldman/Meyerhoff Fresnel Terrace. Please make sure to place any trash and recyclables in the receptacles placed around the campus. You are welcome to enjoy the lawn outside of 10am-5pm open hours, but we can’t guarantee the irrigation system won’t come on and cool you off from the summer heat. Please refrain from visiting between sunset and sunrise. If you wish to check on the current activity on the front lawn before coming up, you can look at the Wortman Webcam at any time.

Feedback

A task force on reopening the campus was formed that will continue to meet throughout the summer. If at any time you have suggestions on how to improve the health and safety beyond the measures already implemented, please email health@mvmuseum.org or call 508-684-8757.

Please be patient and please be kind as we innovate, and create a new normal. We will constantly monitor how visitors use the property and adjust accordingly.
