July at the Martha’s Vineyard Museum Brings Music, Movies, and Meaningful Moments to the Island
[VINEYARD HAVEN, MA] – JULY, 2025 – Summer is in full swing at the Martha’s Vineyard Museum, where the month of July offers a dynamic lineup of programs that celebrate the Island’s rich culture, local history, and global connections. From moonlit music inspired by Jaws to thought-provoking author talks, Celtic concerts, and climate discoveries, the Museum’s campus will be alive with events for all ages and interests.
Highlights include:
- The Heroic Life and Times of a Vineyard Whaleman (July 8): Author Paul Magid brings the high seas to life in a dramatic tale of courage and mutiny aboard the whaleship Sharon, rooted in the Museum’s own archives.
- Jaws: Stories Beneath the Full Moon (July 10): Step into movie magic with a re-creation of Jaws’ iconic beach party scene on the Museum’s Lewis Lawn, featuring a cozy faux fire, original guitarist Michael Haydn and behind-the-scenes storytelling from Island locals.
- Global Rhythms Music Series (Wednesdays): This beloved outdoor concert series returns with world-class musicians performing and sharing stories from cultures around the globe. July’s lineup includes the Misfits of Avalon, Ehud Ettun, Molly & Mark, Jan Hulka, and Sol y Canto.
- Tales of Edgartown (Mondays): Weekly talks and tours explore Edgartown’s lesser-known stories—from the forgotten village of Pohogonot to the evolution of everyday Island life at the historic Cooke House.
- Unplugged with Fred Mollin (July 17): A rare, behind-the-scenes evening with the legendary producer and memoirist.
- Whimsical World of Margot Datz (July 18): A playful, inspiring journey through the artist’s colorful career.
- Decoding Climate History from Whaling Logs (July 19): A collaboration between historians and oceanographers uncovering weather patterns hidden in 19th-century ship logs.
- Wine, Cheese & Island History (July 20): A twilight tasting at the Cooke House in Edgartown, paired with the surprising story of the Island’s name.
“With something happening almost every day, July at the Museum offers an incredible opportunity for visitors and Islanders alike to connect with history, art, culture, and community in fresh and exciting ways,” said Heather Seger, Executive Director of MVM. “Whether you’re a music lover, a film buff, a history enthusiast, or just looking for something special to do, we invite you to explore it all.”
