An Evening of Wine, Cheese & Island History at the Thomas Cooke House & Legacy Gardens
An Evening of Wine, Cheese & Island History at the Thomas Cooke House & Legacy Gardens
Join us on Sunday, July 20th for a delightful evening at the historic Thomas Cooke House & Legacy Gardens in Edgartown, where colonial charm meets contemporary flavors. Set against the backdrop of one of Martha’s Vineyard’s oldest homes, this event offers a unique blend of local history and culinary delight.
As you savor a curated selection of New England wines and artisanal cheeses, Martha’s Vineyard Museum Research Librarian Bow Van Riper will delve into the intriguing story behind the Island’s name. Despite its moniker, Martha’s Vineyard has no vineyards—a tale rooted in colonial agriculture, maritime trade, and the evolving landscape of the 18th century.
Joining the evening is Morgen Schroeder of MV Cheesery, who will guide you through a tasting experience highlighting local flavors and artisanal craftsmanship.
The Thomas Cooke House, built in 1766, stands as a testament to Edgartown’s colonial past. Its unique “cambered” construction—designed by shipbuilders—features sloping floors and ceilings, offering a distinctive architectural experience. The adjacent Legacy Gardens, transformed into a public green space, provide a serene setting for this memorable evening.
Don’t miss this opportunity to indulge in Island flavors and uncover the rich history of Martha’s Vineyard.
