What is a BioBlitz? A New Way to Discover the Natural World

What is a BioBlitz? A New Way to Discover the Natural World

More than 250 people took part in the first Inter-Island BioBlitz, a two-week competition between Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket to document as many species as possible. Together, they logged more than 16,500 wildlife observations.

Join Matt Pelikan, community naturalist at BiodiversityWorks, for a look at how the BioBlitz worked, what participants found, and how new tools are changing the way we study the natural world. He’ll explore what these observations can tell us about the places we call home.

And, naturally, he’ll answer the question at the heart of the competition: Which Island won?

Learn how to join the Vineyard team when the Inter-Island BioBlitz returns in 2027.
