Voices Preserved: The HBCU Radio Legacy
Voices Preserved: The HBCU Radio Legacy
As part of HBCU Legacy Week, join us on Tuesday, July 28 for an evening celebrating the rich history and ongoing impact of HBCU radio—a platform that has amplified Black voices, music, and community storytelling for decades. Featuring the archives of North Carolina Central University’s WNCU 90.7 FM and Elizabeth City State University’s WRVS-FM, this program offers a rare look at how these stations have shaped culture locally and nationally.
Island residents, visitors, HBCU alumni, and anyone passionate about media, music, and community engagement will gain insight into both the history of HBCU radio and the challenges and opportunities facing public broadcasting today, including funding and preservation efforts.
