A Blackout Poetry Valentines Workshop

A Blackout Poetry Valentines Workshop

This Valentine’s Day, breathe new life into old text in this hands-on workshop that explores the art of Blackout Poetry. Led by artist and Museum Educator Becky Nutton, discover the fun of “found poetry” and the creativity it inspires. You’ll walk away with more than one new work of art to adorn your own wall or gift to a friend or loved one. All materials, including vintage texts and art supplies, are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own as well!

What is Blackout Poetry?
Blackout poetry, also called erasure poetry, is a form of found poetry where a poet takes an existing text (like a book page, newspaper, or magazine) and creates a new poem by blacking out, painting over, or otherwise obscuring most of the words, leaving only select words visible to form a new meaning, often accompanied by visual art. It’s a creative way to repurpose old text, overcome creative blocks, and give new life or commentary to the original material by highlighting specific words that create a fresh narrative or feeling.

Admission: $35; Includes all supplies and instructions.
