Understanding Tick-Borne Illness in an Island Community

Understanding Tick-Borne Illness in an Island Community

Part II of our “Ticks on the Vineyard: What We Know” Online Information Series

Join us on Tuesday, January 20th for a broad, practical conversation about tick-borne illnesses and what everyone in our community should know as these diseases become more common in our region. This talk focuses on building understanding and confidence—how ticks transmit disease, what early and later symptoms can look like, when to seek care, and how prevention and awareness can make a real difference.

Led by Aubrey Stimola Ryan, MS, PA-C, a clinician and educator with more than 17 years of emergency room experience, this program is grounded in both medical expertise and lived experience caring for patients on Martha’s Vineyard and in New York City. Aubrey is known for translating complex, evolving science into clear, usable information for everyday life. Her work includes extensive research and community education on tick-borne diseases, supported by training in bioethics, global health, clinical tropical medicine, and travel medicine.

Designed for neighbors, families, outdoor workers, and anyone feeling overwhelmed or uncertain about tick-related health risks, this talk offers a stronger framework for understanding tick-borne illness as a whole, along with practical tools for prevention, recognition, and informed decision-making.

A Q&A will follow.
