Ticked Off: An Epidemiologist’s Take on Our Tick Problem

Ticked Off: An Epidemiologist’s Take on Our Tick Problem

Part IV of our “Ticks on the Vineyard: What We Know” Online Information Series

Ticks are more than just a nuisance—they’re driving a growing public health challenge on Martha’s Vineyard. In this data-driven, locally grounded presentation, infectious disease epidemiologist Lea Hamner, MPH, explores current tick-borne disease trends on the Island, including Lyme disease, Babesiosis, Anaplasmosis, and emerging concerns such as Alpha-gal Syndrome.

Drawing on local case data, tick surveillance, and public health insights, Lea explains how and where these diseases are appearing, who is most at risk, and which prevention and early treatment strategies are most effective. Whether you’re a healthcare provider, outdoor worker, or concerned resident, this talk offers actionable information to help protect both individual and community health.

A Q&A will follow.
