The Tick Update: New Research, New Action on MV
The Tick Update: New Research, New Action on MV
The conversation about ticks on Martha’s Vineyard is continuing, and there is much to bring you up to date on.
After a summer in which ticks, tick-borne illness, and Alpha-Gal Syndrome received widespread national attention, Island experts will come together to share the latest research, local findings, health information, and work underway here at home.
Lea Hamner, MPH, infectious disease epidemiologist, will examine current Island tick-borne disease trends using local case data, tick surveillance, and public-health information. Aubrey Stimola Ryan, MS, PA-C, will share an update on Alpha-Gal Syndrome, including new research, diagnosis, and practical information for those living with this tick-associated allergy. Patrick Roden-Reynolds, Director of the Martha’s Vineyard Tick Program, will report on local tick ecology, emerging risks, and the Museum’s ongoing yard surveys. Virginia Barbatti, Executive Director of Tick Free MV, will discuss Island-wide tick-reduction efforts, policy advocacy, new collaborations, and community strategies to reduce tick-borne disease risk.
Join us on Zoom to hear what has changed, what we are learning, and what is happening next. Bring your questions for the people working on this issue across Martha’s Vineyard.
