Historic Preservation In Action

Historic Preservation In Action

Historic preservation is not only about saving old buildings; it is also about caring for the places where community life, memory, craftsmanship, and Island identity have taken shape over time. In Historic Preservation in Action, Vineyard Preservation Trust Executive Director Nevette Previd will share a thoughtful and engaging look at the roots of preservation on Martha’s Vineyard and why this work matters today.Through the lens of the Trust’s landmark properties, this talk will explore how preservation connects the past to daily life, strengthens a sense of place, and creates a foundation for future stewardship. The conversation will also consider the practical responsibilities of preservation, including building care, public use, financial sustainability, and thoughtful adaptation. As the National Trust for Historic Preservation notes, historic places connect us to the past, anchor us in the present, and help lead us into the future.
