Memory Keepers Through Time: Chappaquiddick Wampanoag Conservation as Resistance

Memory Keepers Through Time: Chappaquiddick Wampanoag Conservation as Resistance

Join Alexis Moreis in the Legacy Gardens as she reflects on the enduring relationship between the Chappaquiddick Wampanoag people and their ancestral homelands. Through stories of stewardship, cultural memory, and community knowledge passed from one generation to the next, this talk explores how the protection of land, traditions, and identity are deeply intertwined.

Rather than viewing conservation simply as preservation, Moreis considers it an ongoing act of responsibility, resilience, and care—one that has sustained connections to place across centuries of change. Rooted in lived experience and Indigenous perspectives, this program offers a thoughtful look at the ways memory, culture, and landscape continue to shape one another over time.

Please note: We regret that the historic Cooke House is not ADA-compliant and cannot accommodate mobility aids. This program is presented in historical costume from a modern perspective.
