Join us for an unforgettable evening of poetry and reflection in the beautiful Rose Styron Garden at the Martha’s Vineyard Museum. This special outdoor reading brings together Island poets for a celebration of voice, storytelling, and shared human experience.
Set against the backdrop of one of the Museum’s most intimate and inspiring spaces, this gathering brings together poetry that speaks to identity, resilience, history, memory, and community. Through original works and powerful performances, this distinguished group of poets invites audiences into a moving literary experience that explores identity, resilience, history, memory, and community.
Join us for an evening where poetry, place, and community come together in celebration of creativity, expression, and the stories that shape us all.
This event is free and donations are gratefully accepted.
Participating poets:
STEVE EWING: Born and raised on the Vineyard, Steve is a dock builder as well as the first Poet Laureate of Edgartown and the Town Moderator.
He was appointed the Bard of Clan Ewing in late 2025 and has published two books: “Town Meeting Poems” and “Waterfront Poems”. He is currently working on his third collection.
MARK LOVEWELL: Mark is a longtime folksinger of sea shanties who has shared his poetry and song nationally at the annual FisherPoet Gathering in Oregon. He and Molly Conole have recently released their second CD “Home, Land and Sea”. He is also an avid sailor and stargazer, passionate about all aspects of the sea.
CLARK MYERS: Clark is an active member of the poetry community on the Vineyard. He has been published both locally and regionally. He lives in Vineyard Haven.
DONALD NITCHIE: Donald’s poetry has been published in the Cape CodReview, On the Seawall and in the anthology From the Farther Shore:Discovering Cape Cod and the Islands through Poetry. He teaches in-class poetry writing sessions through the local libraries.
RON SLATE: Ron is an editor and host of “On the Seawall”, an online literary journal. His most recent poetry collection is Joy Ride, published in 2023 by Carnegie Mellon University Press.
JORDAN WALLACE: Jordan Wallace is an Island poet.
MICHAEL WEST: Michael G. West is a poet and fiction writer living in Tisbury. When Stuff is Not Enough, available on Amazon and in local bookstores, is his most recent book of poems.
BEN WILLIAMS: Ben grew up in West Tisbury before flying out to Reed College where he received a degree in English literature and wrote his thesis on Joan Didion’s “New Journalism”. His poetry focuses on prosody ~ the musicality of language.
