SOLD OUT – Forget Prayers, Bring Cake with Merissa Nathan Gerson
August 17 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Join us to celebrate the publication of Merissa Nathan Gerson’s debut book, Forget Prayers, Bring Cake. Forget Prayers, Bring Cake is a heartrending, relatable, and ultimately celebratory account of one woman’s reckoning with loss. Part memoir, part self-help guide, it serves as a manual to navigating the wretched and life-altering storms of grief. As much a celebration of a book publication, this is a celebration of lessons gleaned from winters on Martha’s Vineyard and the power of community. Merissa will share excerpts from her book, Island musicians Bailey Mae Gardener and Miguel Samuel will perform, and cake will be served.
Merissa Nathan Gerson’s writing has appeared in The New York Times, Playboy, The Atlantic, and Salon.com, among others, including, most importantly, The Vineyard Gazette and The MV Times. She was the inherited trauma consultant to Amazon’s Emmy-winning show Transparent. When not on island, Merissa teaches Communication at Tulane University in New Orleans.
Admission includes admission to the program, cake, and a signed copy of Forget Prayers, Bring Cake.
This program takes place in the Bodman Courtyard at MVM.
