Menagerie of Marvels: Paintings by Eleanor Hubbard Opening Reception
Join us on Friday, August 21, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. for the opening reception of Menagerie of Marvels: Paintings by Eleanor Hubbard, an exhibition that brings together paintings, drawings, and the remarkable stories of twelve animals whose lives changed when they encountered the right person at the right moment.
A longtime Vineyard artist and animal rescuer, Eleanor Hubbard has spent much of her career transforming acts of care into works of art. Each animal featured in the exhibition was once in trouble, then rescued, protected, or given a second chance. Working in oil and watercolor, Hubbard portrays them as real, beloved creatures while exploring the mysterious role of serendipity in their stories: the unexpected turns that brought each animal into the right hands at exactly the right time.
Curated by art historian Donna Hassler, Director Emerita of Chesterwood, the exhibition ranges from a canary, lobster, and flying squirrel to José, the legendary 2,500-pound West Tisbury ox who became one of Hubbard’s greatest muses.
Be among the first to experience the exhibition and join us for an evening of art and conversation in the Adele H. Waggaman Community Gallery.
