Living Differently: A Conversation with Kate DeVane
Living Differently: A Conversation with Kate DeVane
Join us for an engaging and heartfelt conversation with Kate DeVane, co-founder of the Island Autism Group, as she shares her journey of building support, finding resources, and navigating life on Martha’s Vineyard.
Nearly 20 years ago, what started as a search for help grew into a vital community resource for Island families. Kate will speak candidly about the things many of us never think about, finding the right doctors, changing daily routines, even something as simple as needing a bigger car, and how those realities shape everyday life.
You’ll also hear about the unexpected joys, the humor, and the new ways of communicating and connecting that autism can bring, alongside the real challenges, including how some individuals struggle to express their needs, especially in medical settings.
Whether you’re a parent, caregiver, or community member, this is a chance to learn about local resources, gain a deeper understanding, and see the world through a different lens.
BIO: Kate DeVane is the co-founder and Executive Director of Island Autism Group (IAG) on Martha’s Vineyard, a non-profit established in 2008 to support autistic individuals and their families.
