Juneteenth: Legacy and Promise
Juneteenth: Legacy and Promise
What does it mean to celebrate Juneteenth in today’s political and cultural climate? Join us on Thursday, June 19, for an evening of conversation and reflection exploring the roots of Juneteenth, the evolution of its observance, and what the holiday represents now – and in the future.
This panel discussion will be moderated by the Vineyard Gazette and features:
- Bow Van Riper, Historian and Research Librarian at the Martha’s Vineyard Museum, who will ground the conversation in the holiday’s origins and historical context.
- Dani Monroe, President of CenterFocus International, founding force behind the MV Chief Diversity Officer Summit, and inaugural Chief Diversity Officer of MassGeneral Brigham, who brings deep expertise in organizational equity and cultural leadership.
Together, they’ll explore what Juneteenth signifies on Martha’s Vineyard and beyond—from historical milestones to modern-day movements. This event is part of a national conversation and a local commitment to honoring the past while looking toward a more just future.
This program is hosted by the Martha’s Vineyard Museum in collaboration with Vineyard Gazette Media Group. Tickets are available through the Vineyard Gazette.
