It Sounds So Sweet: Folk Music on Martha’s Vineyard, 1958 to 1963

It Sounds So Sweet: Folk Music on Martha’s Vineyard, 1958 to 1963

Join us for an in-depth look back at the burgeoning folk music scene here on the Vineyard during the early days of a transformative period in American musical and social history. Doug Thompson will share and discuss an extensive array of vintage photographs, memorabilia, and snippets of recorded music to bring alive the events, the venues, and the musicians – both local and imported – that created the magic of “The Great Folk Scare.” This is a special encore presentation of a talk originally given at the Museum in 2023.

Bio: W. Douglas Thompson was born on the Vineyard when his family lived in the historic home at 1000 State Road in West Tisbury. He is a retired Professor of Epidemiology who currently divides his time between Portland, Maine, and his seasonal Campground cottage on Trinity Park in Oak Bluffs.
