Ireland to Island: The Horse Whisperer of Moy
Ireland to Island: The Horse Whisperer of Moy
Martha’s Vineyard has long had a link to Ireland and this talk will tell one of those stories. Sarah McKay arrived on the Island from her Village of Moy, Ireland in 1994. Join us on Sunday, March 16th as she shares the rich history of the small village where she grew up.
Moy was designed and functioned until the early 1950s as a “Fair Village” where thousands of horse traders would come from all over to buy and sell horses. Her family, the Laverty’s, were central to all of the horse activity in Moy for many decades. This included financial ruin in the early twenties when a deal with the Greek army for a shipment of horses fell through and resulted in over a thousand horses perishing.
These stories are sure to keep you captivated and further your Irish island connections.
