SOLD OUT – History Unfolded: At Sea – Stories from the Vineyard’s Whaling Past

August 10 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

In conjunction with the Museum’s exhibition Tomorrow’s History: 175 Years of the Vineyard Gazette, this program series takes a deep dive into some of the Island’s most compelling stories. Join Museum colleagues and friends as they explore a different topic each week, offering deeper insight into our Island’s rich history.

Today we aim to protect them, but not long ago we were whale hunters, crossing the world’s oceans to chase them down. At its peak in the 19th century, whaling dominated nearly every aspect of Island life, bringing wealth to some, death to others, and the hope of opportunity and adventure to many. Join maritime historian Matthew Stackpole as he shares some of their stories.

This talk will take place in the Morgan Learning Center at MVM.

This event is sold out. We hope you can join us for another talk soon!
