Join Vineyard archaeologists Jim Richardson and Dick Burt for a celebratory launch of their new book, Finding a Lost Vineyard House: Archaeology of the John and Experience Mayhew House Site on Martha’s Vineyard, detailing and contextualizing their 1985 dig at the John and Experience Mayhew House site in Chilmark. The book explores the interrelationship of the Wampanoag with the English colonists from 1642, when Thomas Mayhew Sr. first purchased the right to settle on Martha’s Vineyard, until 1765 using 15,000 artifacts and 10,000 animal bones of food remains discovered in the archaeological dig.
