Ancient Blue: A Hands-On Indigo Workshop for All Ages
Indigo has been used to dye cotton, silk, and other natural fibers on five continents, and been in use for over 6,000 years. The plant, once so valuable that it was known as “blue gold,” has been part of cultures from Peru and Central America to West Africa, India, and beyond. On Friday, August 7, this hands-on workshop, led by environmental steward Rebecca Gilbert and artist Emily Auchincloss, combines nature, tradition, and the living landscape. Working with processed indigo and fresh plants grown on Rebecca’s farm, participants will create two unique, hand-dyed bandanas, gaining a deeper understanding of natural color, slow craft, and the joy of making something with your own hands.
Admission: Members $55/Non-members $65 per person; includes supplies, instructions, 2 completed items to take home, and light refreshments.
