BIO:
Award-winning filmmaker Dawn Porter is an acclaimed director and producer known for powerful storytelling across HBO, Netflix, Amazon, CNN, PBS, MSNBC, and more. A four-time Sundance Film Festival director, her newest HBO documentary, When A Witness Recants, premieres at the 2026 festival. She was recently awarded the National Humanities Medal by Joe Biden and elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Her recent film The Sing Sing Chronicles won Best Documentary Emmy at the 46th News & Documentary Emmy Awards, while Luther: Never Too Much premiered on CNN/MAX in 2025. Her first film, Gideon’s Army, was nominated for an Emmy and Independent Spirit Award, winning the Ridenhour Prize and American Bar Association Silver Gavel Award. Other celebrated works include Trapped, John Lewis: Good Trouble, and The Lady Bird Diaries. Her honors also include a Peabody Award, the 2021 NAACP Image Award, the 2022 Critics’ Choice Impact Award, and Gracie Awards in 2022 and 2023.
