Authors Richard Taylor and Thomas Dresser will present a compelling look at the history of Black homeownership on Martha’s Vineyard drawing from their new book. This discussion will cover the historical barriers that African Americans faced in real estate and how they overcame these challenges to establish deep roots and legacy properties on the Island. They will also recognize the influential families and organizations that have contributed to a lasting sense of community and belonging for Black residents. This talk offers a vital perspective on the interplay of race and real estate, and the profound sense of belonging on Martha’s Vineyard it has created for generations.
