A Brighter Day Than This Never Dawned: President Grant’s 1874 Visit to Martha’s Vineyard with Bob Lammey

September 21 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

President Ulysses S. Grant was the first sitting president to visit Martha’s Vineyard when he came to Cottage City in 1874, around the time he chose not to seek a third term in office. Join Robert Lammey, owner of the cottage where President Grant stayed, as he shares the details of that excursion to the Island – and the long-term implications for civil rights legislation and the trajectory of the nation that resulted from Grant’s decision against running for reelection. Bob’s presentation is fully illustrated with historic images and animated to keep the imagination engaged, bringing the audience along on the presidential visit.
