Island Faces Portriat Contest

June 15 - October 6, 2012
In Collaboration with the Featherstone Center for the Arts

For this exhibition, the Martha's Vineyard Museum held an open competition inviting people to submit a portrait of someone from Martha's Vineyard. We received sixty paintings, drawings, and photographs for the competition. A panel of four judges chose nineteen of these images to appear in the exhibit, and ranked first, second, and third place. We invite you to explore the faces of the Island through the eyes of others in this unique exhibition that includes artist statements about the subjects.

Judges for the Portrait Contest are:

  • Michael Hunter - Stylist and owner of PikNik Gallery in Oak Bluffs
  • Steve DiRado - Photography Senior Lecturer at Clark University; has exhibited work since 1983
  • Carol Craven - Owner of the Carol Craven Gallery for fifteen years
  • Francine Kelly - Executive Director Emerita for Featherstone Center for the Arts

People's Choice

The public can now vote on a separate "People's Choice" category, the winners of which will be featured on display at Featherstone from October 14th - 31st. To allow for impartial judging, the names of the artists have been left off of the voting site. If you would like to know more, please email acarringer@mvmuseum.org. You can only vote once.
