adopt an object
The Martha's Vineyard Museum's mission is to preserve and interpret collections that engage and connect the public to the Island's history, art and culture. To strengthen that connection even further, we offer this opportunity to "adopt an object."
How it works
There are fifty objects available to adopt, chosen from the Martha's Vineyard Museum's vast collection. These objects are featured in our book Island Stories: Highlights from the Martha's Vineyard Museum. They are also shown in the thumbnails below.
Click on the objects below to read their story. When you find one that you would like to adopt, simply click the "Adopt Me" button and it will be placed in your Shopping Cart. Don't stop at just one object -- adopt a family. Twins and triplets are strongly encouraged!
Would you rather adopt the old-fashioned way? Click here for an adoption form that you can mail to us at:

More than one person may adopt the same object. (It takes a village to raise a Museum, after all!) For every object you adopt, your name will be added to the list of "parents" for that object on the Museum's website for a period of one year.
For every object you adopt, you will receive:
- Your name associated with that object on the Museum's website, for a one-year period.
- A copy of Island Stories: Highlights from the Martha's Vineyard Museum.
- A one-year $75 (family) membership. This must be a new membership, not a renewal. It may most certainly be a gift. What a great opportunity to introduce your friends to the Martha's Vineyard Museum!
$225 of your gift is fully tax-deductible. The Martha's Vineyard Museum is a tax-exempt non-profit educational institution under the IRS code 501(c)(3), tax ID# 042 160 642.
