Biography/Historical Note

The Nerney family is from Attleboro, Massachusetts and has regularly vacationed on Martha's Vineyard since the early 1900s. They have been actively involved in the preservation of the history of Martha's Vineyard and Massachusetts. Especially Ruth Nerney, the wife of William Nerney and mother of Nicholas Nerney, whom was a member of the Martha's Vineyard Museum, historian of the Attleboro Tri-Centennial Committee, and member of the Attleboro Historical Commission. Nicholas Nerney, whom resides in Greenville, R.I., still has a home in Oak Bluffs.

Scope and Content of Collection

The collection consists of matted photographs taken by Gretchen Van Tassel of the launching of The Old Sculpin sailboat in Edgartown, Massachusetts by William Nerney, his son Nicholas Nerney, and others.

Arrangement

The collection's original order has been maintained.
