Scope and Content of Collection
The artificial collection contains correspondence, handbooks, newspaper clippings, poems, sheet music, songs, and songbooks from poets and musicians who worked and resided on Martha's Vineyard, predominately in the 19th century. The bulk of the material was produced at Cottage City (now Oak Bluffs) where artists, writers, and musicians came to live and work together as a community. There are original manuscripts and transcripts of works throughout the collection.
Arrangement
The collection is organized alphabetically by title of work when apparent, then chronologically, and ending with unidentified works.
