Gertrude F. Turner (1881-1977) was the eldest daughter of David B. Adams, a whaling captain, and Alice Tilton Adams of Chilmark, Massachusetts. In 1918 Gertrude married Charles A. Turner (1882-1957). Charles A. Turner moved to West Tisbury, Massachusetts, from the Boston area around 1910 and was a clerk at S. M. Mayhew Company. In 1914 Turner bought the company from Mayhew and in 1945 Turner sold his company to Albion Alley, the business currently known as Alley’s General Store. Charles and Gertrude Turner lived in West Tisbury and had two daughters: Alma in 1920 and Elizabeth in 1922.
