Biography/Historical Note

Havenside was constructed in 1966 with the mission to provide housing at or below cost for retired, elderly full-time residents of Martha’s Vineyard. Margaret C. Love and her brother, Robert Love, purchased the former Havenside Inn and under the auspices of their family's foundation, the Romarlo Foundation, designed and built the four-building complex. In 1973, the Loves donated the facility to the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts. The diocese created a separate non-profit corporation for Havenside's administration in 1991, governed by a local board of directors and employing a property manager.
