Henry Beetle Hough is also the founder of Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation (Hough and his wife, Elizabeth Bowie, remained active conservationists throughout their lives) and author of numerous books and articles pertaining to Martha’s Vineyard and advocating a healthy and wholesome living experience on the island. Hough died in 1985 at the age of 88 on Martha’s Vineyard, where he had established his permanent home.
